Twin Cities accounting firm Boyum Barenscheer plans to consolidate into a new headquarters office in St. Paul just off Highway 280.

The new office will span approximately 43,350 square feet at 2344 Energy Park Drive within the two-building Midway Innovation Center campus, according to Edina-based Carlson Partners, which represented Boyum Barenscheer in the deal.

The company was previously based at Bloomington’s Metro Office Park at 3050 Metro Drive. It also had another office at Northpark Corporate Center at 1210 W. County Road E. in Arden Hills, which will also consolidate into the St. Paul office.

The new office represents a space increase of more than 6,000 square feet compared to the two combined locations, according to a prepared statement by Carlson Partners. Boyum Barenscheer will occupy the top two of the building's three floors. The first-floor space of about 18,500 square feet is still available for lease, confirmed Eric Batiza of JLL, which leads leasing efforts for the campus alongside Eric Rapp of Transwestern.

The space Boyum Barenscheer is moving into was last occupied by Fairview Health Services, which vacated several years ago. The overall Midway Innovation Center, an office-tech campus near St. Paul's border with Minneapolis, was developed by Minneapolis-based CSM Corp. in the mid-2000s for Secure Computing, which was later acquired by San Jose, California-based McAfee.

The company's move “reflects a trend we’re seeing across the market: firms consolidating multiple locations into one high-quality, centrally located headquarters that works better for both their people and their clients," Tim Olsen of Carlson Partners said in a statement.

Founded in 1975, Boyum Barenscheer has more than 120 employees and offers tax, audit and outsourced accounting services to individuals, nonprofits and businesses. The company's website also lists having an office in Scandia;this location was not included in the consolidation.

The company’s office space will include a mix of hybrid offices, workstations, phone booths, and conference and training rooms. The workspaces are intended to give employees the option to choose how they work best, instead of the traditional office set up.

"We wanted an office that creates energy and collaboration while still giving our people the flexibility to work the way that works best for them,” Charles Metzig, managing partner at Boyum Barenscheer, said in a statement.

The buildout of the firm’s new space is expected to be complete by September 2027.

Minneapolis-based HGA will serve as the architect for the buildout. Minneapolis-based Fluid Interiors will lead the furniture selection. Carlson Partners will continue to advise the firm during the buildout and move in process.

The Midway Innovation Center has amenities like a fitness center, locker rooms, a break room, bike storage and an outdoor patio.
